6th, Saturday / 8:00 a.m. – Westmoreland Sanctuary – BREAKFAST WITH THE BIRDS HIKE
Spring migration is in full swing. Join us for an opportunity to view a number of migratory species and summer breeding birds. This is a moderate to slow-paced walk. Binoculars are necessary and a field guide is helpful. Refreshments will be available shortly before and after the walk in the museum. Space is limited so call us to reserve a place. This program is sponsored by Wildbirds Unlimited.

HABITAT IMPROVEMENT: Clearing Laurel Field
We are looking for all persons interested in helping clear brush and invasive vegetation in Laurel Field. Anyone willing to help should bring work gloves and hand tools for cutting shrubs, vines, and barberry bushes. Don’t forget water and a snack, too. Show up any time from 1-4 p.m. to help.

Motorcycle Ride To Ground Zero
The annual police-escorted 9/11 memorial to Lower Manhattan by motorcycle riders from Mahopac will be held Thursday. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by a ceremony at 1 p.m. and departure to Ground Zero at 2 p.m. The fee is $20 and portions of the money raised go to the Putnam County Sheriff’s cadet program, and the Mahopac and Carmel student-scholarship funds. 13th, Saturday / 10:00 a.m. – Westmoreland Sanctuary – HAWK WATCHING
Nothing is more exciting or awe inspiring than seeing a bird of prey slicing through the air above your head. This is the time of year when the hawks are migrating south for the winter. We will meet at our Westmoreland’s museum and walk to The Hawk Watch at Butler Sanctuary. Bring your binoculars.
13th, Saturday / 1:00 p.m. – Westmoreland Sanctuary – PERIMETER HIKE
Join us on this hike along the outermost trails of Westmoreland. We will visit some of the most picturesque spots, such as waterfalls and interesting rock formations.
Ages: 8 and older
14th, Sunday / 3:00 p.m. – Westmoreland Sanctuary – REPTILES AND TURTLE MONITORING
What is a reptile? What makes them important to our ecosystem? Which ones may be living in and around your backyard? This program will answer these questions and more. We will also take a short hike down to Bechtel Lake to check on our turtle traps and see what if anything we might have caught. Any turtles captured will be marked for identification and released back into the wild. The hike will be canceled in inclement weather.
